September 18 Incident Museum
This museum shows what happened when the Japanese invaded Manchuria in 1931. Graphic details are given to the brutality of the fighting and the invasion from Japan. It's sure to give some insight into aspects of Chinese thought.
Steam Locomotive Exhibition Hall
This museum showcases China's locomotive history. Soon to become China's 'National Railway Museum', it's about all things railroad. If you're a steam train enthusiast, this is certainly a stop for you.
Stockport Tiger Star
If you like football look them up and support the lads. As the name suggests this is Stockport County's venture in China. You won't see Premiership standards (not yet anyway) but you would be given a warm welcome. If you got chance you could talk Premiership football over a drink with English coach, John Hollins (ex-Arsenal and Chelsea).
Shenyang Palace Museum
The Shenyang Palace Museum is the second largest and complete palace in China. Only the Beijing Imperial Palace (Forbidden City) is larger. Founded in 1625 and completed in 1636, it was the palace of the first emperor of the Qing Dynasty Nurhachi and the second emperor Huangtaiji. With more than 90 buildings and 300 rooms, it is a literal maze of historical value. Landwise, it’s over 60 thousand square meters. Chongzheng Hall lies at the middle with Daqing Gate and Qingning Hall at its sides.
Dongling Tomb and Park
Dongling Park is the tomb of the first emperor of the Qing Dynasty, Nurhachi and his empress, Yehenala. It was initially founded in 1629, and was put to use in 1651. Several renovations took place during the reigns of Shunzhi, Kangxi and Xianlong. Today, it covers an area of over 500 Hectares. Inside Dongling Park lies the grand Zhenghong Gate, the Stone Lion, Tiger and Horse, as well as the famous 108 steps. Dongling Park promises to be a worthwhile visit if only to see the unique tradition and style of Chinese ancient architecture.
Beiling Tomb and Park
Beiling Park, also known as Zhao Tomb is another resting place, this one for the second mperor of the Qing Dynasty, Huangtaiji and his empress Qiaoduanwen. Beiling Park was established in 1643. Inside the park are Longnen Hall, Baocheng, Baoding, Yueyancheng, Daminglou Building, Dapailou Building, Square Town, Longen Gate, Dahong Gate, Shipaifang, and many more. Surrounding these buildings are large modern garden areas, giving both the feel of the ancient architecture embedded in modern scenery.
Xinle, A Neolithic age collection
Xinle is attributed to the Neolithic age of China, a community that existed over 7000 years ago. During the New Stone Age, the ancient peoples built stone tools, pottery, and and coal and wood-made relics, the most famous and earliest being the Sun-bird. The sun-bird is also one of the only existing wood-carvings found from the Neolithic area in the world.
Summer Palace Waterworld
For something not so ancient, The Shenyang Summer Palace is a modern theme park with water slides, bowling, bungee jumping, restaurants and a shopping area. Taking an area of 23800 square meters, this water park can hold up to 2000 people in its various venues.
Qipanshan Mountain
Qipanshan Mountain is in the northeast of Shenyang. For a chance to get away from the city life, head here, where you’ll find streams and fresh spring water, trees, flowers and plenty of small wildlife.
Wild Animal Zoo
For bigger wildlife, head over to the Shenyang Forest Wild Animal Zoo. Near Qipanshan Mountain and covering the area of 2.4 thousand square meters, the garden of Animal Zoo was designed by the Scenery House of Stock Corporation of Tokyo. The garden is divided up into 3 distinct areas. One is the safari, where you’ll travel through the forest safely inside the bus. Another, is a regular zoo, where all the animls are caged. And the third area is another safari, which takes you to distinct areas such as Tiger Mountain, Bear Col, Wolf Village, Lion Mountain Range, Asian Animal Grass Land, and Waterfowl Lake. This safari brings you up close to over 3,000 kinds of rare animals in Asia and Africa.
